We help organizations and communities focus not just on quality services and community improvement projects, but also on improving critical results, with respect to outcomes they want to achieve for service customers, populations or neighborhoods of concern, or the community as a whole. This has become increasingly important, as governments and foundations become more interested in seeing measurable outcomes as the return on their investments in services and projects, and more civic organizations monitor the "quality of life," "health," or "sustainability," of their community. We can help clients define measurable outcomes, whether they are trying to improve physical conditions in a community or human conditions of people; whether they are trying to change the behavior of people, or improve their skills; whether they are taking a broad look at a community or region, or a more focused look on people they serve. We also help clients improve and focus their service provision and community development strategies to achieve the outcomes they want most. Figure 2. Outcomes that MatterIn addition to helping clients define outcomes and strategies to improve them, we have worked with some clients through targeting and measuring outcomes, tracking results against targets, and monitoring progress of planned improvement efforts. As clients reach key implementation checkpoints, we help them learn from their interim results and their implementation experience, so they can adjust their projects and services as needed to reach their outcome targets. For engagements involving behavior change and skill development of service customers, the outcome methodologies and tools of The Rensselaerville Institute, which we are licensed to use, can be especially useful.
